David Roy Waggoner, 75, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, went to be with the Lord, Monday, Oct. 17, 2022, at in-patient hospice at UnityPoint-St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. He passed peacefully with his family by his side. A visitation with be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2022, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service at 520 Wilson Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids. A funeral service with Military Honors will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at the funeral home. Immediately following the service there will be a luncheon at The Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood.
David was born May 31, 1947, in Cedar Rapids to Kenneth and Winifred (Roberts) Waggoner. Following his graduation from Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids, he worked for Cryovac and later enlisted in the United States Army Corp from 1967 to 1971, stationed in Fort Riley, Kan. When back home, he returned to Cryovac and soon after they went on strike. He was then hired on at ADM Corn Sweeteners where he worked for 37 years, retiring at age 62.
David was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. There are many adventurous stories he would tell people about trips and vacations with his family. David’s hobbies included watching sports and playing baseball as a pitcher. He stuck by his St. Louis Cardinals and Cowboys and enjoyed watching Iowa Hawkeyes football and basketball. His pastime activities were camping, fishing and boating, as well as attending car shows.
David is survived by his wife of 41 years, Marie (Matthiessen) Waggoner. They brought together six children, Dawn Jellison, Donna Paulos (Dustin), Debbie Waggoner and Doug Waggoner; stepdaughters, Teresa Lindley and Rani Javier (Vicente); grandchildren, Dalton, Dylan and Daylee Jellison, Rhiannon Paulos; Cameron Waggoner, Tristin Jansen and Ryker Waggoner; stepgrandchildren, Nathan Lindley (Crystal), Tom Lindley, Jaydon Lindley, Randi Vogel (Ben), Isaiah Javier, Josiah Javier (Melody), Elijah Javier (Kaylee) and Stephen-Juan Javier; and great-grandchildren, Rylan Jellison, Kennedi Lindley, Kayne Lindley, Uriah and Mina Javier, and Benny and Sophie Vogel.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Winifred Waggoner; mother- and father-in-law, Garry and Louise Matthiessen; sister-in-law, Marilyn Lent; and son-in-law, (best buddy) Thomas Lindley.
