David Gerald Gillaspie, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, July 8, 2024, at The Gardens of Cedar Rapids. Services: 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at Teahen Funeral Home, by Penny Ackerman. Burial: Eslinger Cemetery in Albia at a later date. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Teahen

David was born on February 3, 1933, son of Grover Gerald and Mary Belle (Turner) Gillaspie, in Albia.

He married and later divorced Helen Marie Engbretson, who died in 1986. He was later remarried and divorced in 2015. He worked as a handyman for his business Dave’s Repair for twenty years. Before starting his own business, David had worked at a gas station, Downing Box Company, and Link-Belt (FMC). He retired in 1998.

David was a beekeeper and enjoyed teaching people about beekeeping, he spent time doing stained glass. After retiring he started writing his book “Buzzing Thru My Life” that was a gift to family and friends. Most of all, David loved to spend time with his family and Friends.

David moved into The Country House memory care in 2020 and resided until he was moved into hospice.

Memorials may be directed to Dogs Forever or The Alzheimer’s Association.

David’s pacemaker is being donated to Iowa State University small animal hospital.
