David F. Steffen, 94, of Luxemburg, Iowa passed away Monday, March 3, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Visitation will be held from 3 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Kramer-Morris Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa. Visitation will continue Friday morning, March 7th from 8:45 – 9:45 a.m. at Kramer-Morris Funeral Home prior to funeral services.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 6, 2025, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Luxemburg with burial to follow in the church cemetery where military honors will be accorded. Rev. Tyler Raymond will officiate.

Dave was born and raised on a farm near Luxemburg Iowa, on January 26, 1931, to John and Catherine (Wolter) Steffen. He was the youngest of 8 children. He attended school through the 8th grade and worked hard to become a self-made, successful businessman.

Dave proudly served his country as a Draftsman during the Korean War. He came home from the service in 1954 and married the love of his life. There are boxes

of love letters saved in the attic that Arlene received while Dave was away. They married in 1954 and started their family of nine children in 1955.

Dave first worked construction and bought a small feed store in Luxemburg, Iowa in 1956. He and his family grew this into what is known as Dave’s Feed Store today with locations in Luxemburg (Dave’s Feed Store), Bankston (A&D Supply), and Sherrill (Sherrill Feed & Supply).

For enjoyment he loved fishing on the Mississippi, playing cards, gardening, traveling, and raising livestock. Dave also loved to grill, and his cheese dogs were famous with family and friends. Once the family was grown, they became snowbirds, vacationing in Texas, with many old and new friends. He was very active in the church and community and was a lifetime member of the VFW and Knights of Columbus.

Above all, Dave loved his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. At any family gathering, you would always see Dave with a baby on his lap. Dave and Arlene enjoyed a lifetime together and celebrated 66 years of marriage before Arlene’s passing in 2020. Dave and Arlene’s togetherness shaped each and every one of their children.

Survivors include his children: Connie (David J.) Steffen of Garber, Jeff Steffen of Epworth, Carla (Brad) Milbert of Dyersville, Marilyn (Kevin) Langel of Epworth, Chuck (Lisa) Steffen of Hiawatha, Rick (Diane) Steffen of Luxemburg, Jill (Jeff) Hoeger of Port Barrington, IL, Jenny Schute of Epworth and Jodie (Matt) McDermott of Epworth; 34 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; in-laws: Helen Nurre of Manchester, Rosemary Nickol of Dyersville, Kenny (Dottie) Nurre of Dyersville, Gary (Rita) Nurre of Petersburg and many nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Arlene; siblings: Reynold (Mildred) Steffen, Leonard (Marie) Steffen, Wilfred (Florence) Steffen, Julius (Verna Mae) Steffen, Bernice (Carl) Decker, Tharsilla (Joe) Gerdemann, Lorraine (Frank) Lentz; in-laws: Charlie (Alice) Nurre, Alfred “Fritz” (Rosemarie) Nurre, Joe Nurre, and Marvin Nickol.

The family would like to thank Care Planning Institute, especially Sherri Langel for her personal kindness and care for Dave.
