David “Dave” Joseph Kral, 81, died peacefully in his sleep at home on Monday, Sept. 19, 2022.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23, 2022, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Joseph Sia officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City. The rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Regina Foundation.
Dave was born April 20, 1941, in Iowa City, the son of Joseph and Dorothy (Sedlacek) Kral. He was a 1959 graduate of the first graduating class from Regina High School. On Oct. 31, 1961, Dave married Mary Ann Mellecker.
Dave was employed at the University of Iowa as an electrician and carpenter.
Dave was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. His family was his life. Dave had a variety of interests which included wood working, antiques, genealogy, traveling, playing cards, and gardening.
Dave is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Ann; their four children, Denise (Todd) Dietrich, Debbie (Kevin) Von Ahsen, Dianne (Mike) Reeve and Mike (Brenda) Kral; eight grandchildren, Stacey (Brian) Heiberger, Tyler (Morgan) Dietrich, Jackie (Clay) Wilken, Jessie (Vanessa) Von Ahsen, James Reeve, Justin (Chelsea) Reeve, Chelsea (Trever) Owens and Amber (Kolton) Stumpf; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Pat Skay, Donna Matthes and Mary Ann (Kent) Kirkwood; and brothers-in-law, John (Marlene) Mellecker and Ed (Barb) Mellecker.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Jordan Dietrich; brothers-in-law, Jack Skay and Bill Matthes; and his in-laws, John and Mary Mellecker.
