Darrel W. Child, 79, of Anamosa, passed away July 11, 2025, at his home, with his beloved parrot on his shoulder.

He was born on October 21, 1945, in Des Moines. He attended Drake University and worked as an installer for Western Electric and later retired from Lucent Technologies, where he developed computer programs. Never bored, he had a mind that was always busy, be it solving and building tools, practicing archery, oil painting, playing piano, woodworking, designing and building his own timber home as well as a tractor, and blowing up logs so that they would fit into the log splitter.

Darrel’s tools are quiet now, his many projects sit unfinished, and he is deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife Sherry, his brother Roger, wonderful nieces and nephews, and very special friends.
