Cedar Rapids

Danny (Dan) Ray Hartman Sr., lovingly also known as “Happy Grandpa.” Dan was born April 27th, 1956, in Cedar Rapids to his loving parents, Don and Joyce Hartman.

He worked for his father and took over the family construction business with his two eldest sons. As he went from employee to boss and then knower of all things. He enjoyed in the last 10 years sitting back and “supervising.”

He was a hard working man, dedicated to his family, everything he did was for them. Dan’s work ethic was unmatched and because of his problem-solving abilities and being confident in his math skills, he was very successful and always on the hunt for his next project.

He was a magnetic force, people gravitated towards him, and he accepted and loved them all no matter their stage in life. He was compassionate, loving, caring, hilarious. If you were around Dan, you were guaranteed to laugh because he had a story that seemed to come straight out of a comedy movie but was 90% true.

Dan loved tinkering on his old cars, driving around pointing out what roof he worked on or fell off of. He loved his old Westerns that his kids often teased him about and especially loved the casino.

Dan was preceded in death by his loving parents, Don and Joyce Hartman and his brother, Dale Hartman.

He is survived by his brothers: Dave and Donnie Hartman Sr.; sister, Vivian Hartman; sons, Danny, Joe, Mitch and Zack Hartman; daughter, Mindy Cornelius; daughters-in-law, Emily Hartman and Bree Bigelow; son-in-law, Nathan Cornelius; and grandchildren, Shayla, Lucas, Sofia, Fiona, Lizzie, Gracelyn, Owen, Parker, Cora and Samuel.

He is also survived by countless cousins, and all his loving nieces and nephews and friends turned to family who would often listen and laugh to his crazy stories.

Dad, we will miss you, immensely. You were our “go-to” when life got rough, you were our sanity and also a bit of our crazy in this world, and our comfort when we needed a listening ear. You were always someone we could count on. You always gave it 110% and never stopped fighting for what’s right. Because of you, we have the hearts of a lion, the love of our family, and an insane work ethic. We thank you dad for all the calls, wise words of advice, the love you gave us and the beautiful lives we’ve lived because of you, your hard work, and your boundless love for us. We are all better people Dad, because of you. We will forever keep you in our hearts with God.
