Daniel Han Lewis, 38, died from a motorcycle accident in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on July 27, 2022.

A private family gathering will be held in honor of Daniel’s life on earth.

Daniel was born on Sept. 19, 1983, in South Korea. When he was 3 ½ years old Daniel was adopted by Jim and Diane Lewis in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Daniel was one of 16 children in the Lewis family. Living in a family was hard for Daniel to understand because he had not experienced what a family was. Over time he learned that he was safe and loved deeply by his adoptive family. Daniel was profoundly deaf and could not hear any sounds or voices, so he and his family learned sign language together. Speaking with his hands and using gestures, Daniel began to understand and communicate in our complicated world.

In his teenage years, Daniel attended and graduated from Iowa School for the Deaf in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He made good friends at school and later in his work places. Friends within the deaf community were very important to him. Daniel was a good athlete, had good mechanical skills, was a very hard worker, and a person who would help others. He had close friends who cared a great deal about him.

Daniel is survived by his parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins and many nieces and nephews. Our loss is shared by extended family and friends.

We celebrate that Daniel is now at peace and is joyful forever in Heaven.
