Dan Dailey, 83, died Saturday, July 13, 2024, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 Thursday morning, August 1, at the Goettsch Funeral Home, with a private family interment in the Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday, July 31, 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello. Daniel Edward Dailey was born February 14, 1941, to Lance and Eileen Hartsock, Dailey at Cedar Rapids, IA. He graduated from the Owensboro, KY, schools in 1958. He continued his education at Western Kentucky State University in Bowling Green receiving a Bachelor of Science in mathematics. He married his sweet-heart Joan Dudley July 22, 1962. Dan was employed by the Agricultural Division of International Harvester for 15 years. From 1978 until 1996 Dan owned Wears Inc, the IH dealership later becoming the Case-IH dealership. He sold the business in 1996 to Scherrman’s Implement. He retired as manager of that organization in 2007.
Dan served on numerous civic boards and committees. He was co-founder of the Monticello Athletic Booster Club, serving as the Concession Coordinator for 23 years and as a board member for 34 years. He co-chaired the first Post Prom Committee, the first 4th of July parade committee and was a member for 14 years. Dan served on the Chamber of Commerce, President of the Monticello Development Corporation: Co-chaired, Back the Track Committee, Chairman of the Police Review Board for 7 years, the Citizens Street Review Committee, The Monticello Ambassadors, the Monticello Youth Baseball and Softball Association. Dan also held several offices within the Monticello Eagles Club. Dan and Joan received numerous awards; State of Iowa Volunteer of the Year Award, Lifetime memberships to the Chamber of Commerce and the Athletic Booster Club, Lifetime passes to all Monticello School Events, the high school baseball field is named in their honor, Dailey Field. They were honored by “Kids Day of America” and had been Grand Marshalls of the 4th of July and Home Coming Parades; Dan was awarded an Honorary FFA Degree.
Those left to cherish Dan’s memory, his children Dr. Scott (Julie) Dailey of North Liberty, Vicki (John) Giegerich, of Elko, MN, his grandchildren, Kate (Andrew), Kira (Ryan), Ethan, Eryn (Riley), Elli, Tyler (Cortney), Trey (Rylan), and Jaecy; great-grandchildren, Bentley, Aria, Emery, Ava, Rory, and Reed; his brothers, Lance Dailey, Bari (Karen) Dailey, Ed (Marty) Dailey, sister-in-law Linda Dailey, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Joan, his brother Tari Dailey, and a sister-in-law Gerry Dailey.
The family would like to extend a warm thank-you to the very caring staff of Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Above and Beyond Hospice for the excellent care they provided. The staff are considered family.
