Dale Gerst, 93, of Anamosa, died Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at the Anamosa Care Center.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Anamosa. Rev. Rodney Bluml will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Dale Eugene Gerst was born in Anamosa on October 18, 1930, the son of Edward and Ruby (Bodenhoffer) Gerst. He met Helen Marie Osterkamp while she was working as a waitress at Ruby’s Café. The couple were united in marriage on June 14, 1948. She died in 2019. Dale was employed in a variety of jobs. He worked for the Jones County Road Department, drove dairy, and feed trucks, and worked at the Anamosa Reformatory. He also owned and operated the Gerst Farmers’ Market with his wife. Dale also drove the special needs school bus for 22 years.
Those remembering him are his children C. Ed (Susan Koppenhaver) Gerst, Anamosa, Bob ( Linda) Gerst, Buffalo Grove, IL, and Jerry Gerst, Anamosa, grandchildren Brandon (Megan) Gerst, Brielle (Eric Kula) Gerst, Dominique Gerst, Cassandra (Michael) Druen, Sean (Samantha) Gerst, Chad Gerst and Aaron (Adrianne) Gerst, and Andrew (Emily) Koppenhaver, great grandchildren Leigha, Maddox, Madeline, Madden, Aminah, Milah, Riley, Amelia, Tori, Mia, Abby, Evan, Aidan, Asher, and Ross, a brother and sister-in-law Leo and Lois Gerst.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Fred, Nadine, and George.
