Cynthia F. Stammeyer, 85, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023, at Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, located at 4949 Council St. NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with a vigil service beginning at 4:30 p.m. Visitation will continue at 9 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 15, 2023, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, with a rosary beginning at 9:30 a.m. Mass will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, at the church, with Father Jon Seda officiating. Burial will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 15, 2023, at St. Luke’s Catholic Cemetery in St. Lucas, Iowa. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.

Cynthia was born on Oct. 8, 1937, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Glen A. and Frances Marie (Bendorf) Winchell. She was a 1955 graduate of McKinley High School in Cedar Rapids. and went on to attend a technical School. In 1957, Cynthia was united in marriage to Peter A. Stammeyer at All Saints Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. She was a bookkeeper for nearly 50 years, retiring in 2000 from Fisher Printers after 25 years. Cynthia was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and the Lion’s Club in Van Horne, Iowa, of which she played their local Pumpkin and Easter Bunny for years. She was tiny, but she was mighty. Never has there been a woman so full of happiness, love, and optimism. All of heaven doubled in joy, glowing brighter as she strode past the ‘pearly gates.’ Cynthia will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Cynthia is survived and lovingly remembered by her three children, Theresa (Robert) Caswell of Kinross, Iowa, Betty Usher and Patrick (Brooke) Stammeyer, both of Cedar Rapids; former son-in-law, Brian Usher of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Cody (Alli) Usher of Kremmling, Colo., Spencer (Melanie) Usher of Sioux City, Iowa, Grace Stammeyer and Caleb Stammeyer, both of Cedar Rapids; great-granddaughter, Athena Usher; and a host of extended family members including in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Peter Stammeyer; and her sister, Sharon Lafler.
