Craig Lloyd, 82, of Cookeville, Tenn., passed away Sunday, Oct. 16, 2022, at Cedar Hills Senior Living. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, Cookeville, Tenn. The family invites visitation at 10 a.m. prior to memorial.
Craig was born Feb. 13, 1940, in Bronxville, N.Y., to the late John William Lloyd and Ruth Lavinia Craig Lloyd. Craig was a retired professor of American history and archivist at Columbus State University in Columbus, Ga. Among his many accomplishments, he was the author of Eugene Bullard, Black Expatriate in Jazz-age Paris. In his last years, Craig, family, and friends spent many happy summers together with the local community of Saint-Jean-Du-Doigt in the Brittany region of France.
He is survived by his dear companion, Catherine (Kit) Walden and her family; his son and daughter-in-law, John (Jack) Lloyd and Sian Wu of Seattle, Wash.; sister and brother-in-law, Jennifer and John Maxson of Deerfield, Ill.; and grandchildren, Max Craig Lloyd-Wu and Wren James Lloyd-Wu.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Caryl Ann Lloyd, nee Lefstad.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Caryl Lloyd Memorial Scholarship Endowment for foreign language studies at the Columbus State University Foundation, which benefits foreign language students at CSU.
