Clarence Duane Sedgwick
Manchester
Clarence Duane Sedgwick, 94, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at his farm near Dundee. He was born to Cole and Alice (Battin) Sedgwick on April 13, 1930, in Richland Township, Delaware County, Iowa. Clarence was raised on the family farm east of Dundee and graduated from Dundee High School in 1949. He was active in basketball and baseball in high school and played on town teams after graduation. Clarence enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served his country honorably stateside for three years from 1950-1953.
On April 3, 1954, Clarence was united in marriage to Lois Newhard and began farming in rural Dundee. They also established Sedgwick Quarry, selling and delivering ag lime, rock and sand for nearly 30 years. After their retirement, they continued to live on the farm. Lois entered The Good Neighbor Home several years prior to her passing on October 21, 2020. They had been married for 66 years.
Clarence enjoyed farming, running the quarry, and following football and basketball games as well as cheering his children and grandchildren on in sports. He worked hard on the farm, milking cows, raising hogs and crops without all of today’s technology. Clarence always had time for a game of catch or basketball with his kids.
Survivors include his four children, Sandra (Randall) Bishop of Cedar Rapids, Jane (Mark) Haigh of Cedar Falls, Jill Millard (Dave Otdoerfer) of Strawberry Point, and Dr. Ricky (Janet) Sedgwick of South Pasadena, California. Surviving grandchildren include Luke (Melissa) Bishop, Lance (Jennifer) Bishop, Adam (Abigail) Haigh, Abby Haigh, Kyle (Amy) Millard, Cole (Jen) Millard, Jordan (Hannah) Millard, Alex, Rachael, Kelsey, and Parker Sedgwick. His great-grandchildren, Chloe and Esther Bishop, Blake and Piper Bishop, Lennyn and Holden Haigh, Aydan, Abram, Kylar, Kamya and Amyra Millard, Maci Millard, Marvel, Onyx and Blair Millard.
Clarence was preceded in death by his wife, Lois, his parents, son-in-law, Dennis Millard, infant brother, Charles Sedgwick and sister Catherine Manson.
