Cheryl Layne Corey, 85, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, May 2, 2023. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 10, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids, with a visitation one hour prior. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. A reception will follow burial at The Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood in Cedar Rapids.
Cheryl was born Jan. 3, 1938, in Moline, Ill., the daughter of Ivar and Maxine (Baker) Westlin. She was united in marriage to J. Ron Corey on May 24, 1958, in Moline. Cheryl worked for Iowa Electric until her retirement in 2000. She was an avid reader and went to the library frequently. Cheryl enjoyed golfing and watching Old Westerns. She was a big fan of Iowa Hawkeyes sports.
Survivors include her children, Daniel (Lawrence) Corey of Sarasota, Fla., Kathy (Mike) Simmons of Cedar Rapids and Jason Corey of Cedar Rapids; siblings, Mary Ann “Tootie” DeCoster, Debbie (Joe) Dejaegher and Steve Westlin, all of Moline; five grandchildren, Nicholas A. Simmons, Paxton G. Corey, Brooklyn D. Corey, Fallon Layne Corey and Eric A. Simmons; great-grandson, Eli Axel Simmons; sister-in-law, Jackie Deak of Long Beach, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ivar and Maxine Westlin; husband, Ron Corey; and son, Greg Corey.
