Chelsie Shuman

Chelsie F. Shuman, age 88, of Strasburg and formerly of Baltic, went to be with the Lord early Sunday, January 2, 2022.

Born in Rittman, Ohio on August 20, 1933, Chelsie was a daughter of the late Garland H. and Abigail Blanton Jackson.

Chelsie was a graduate of Cambridge High School. As a young lady, she met and fell in love with Robert Shuman who was also born on August 20, 1933. On their 21st birthday, the couple married and together had eight children and shared in 67 years of marriage.

Chelsie had a deep devotion to the Lord and was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ at New Philadelphia. She loved music and greatly enjoyed playing the piano and organ as well as singing and in high school was a member of the band, where she played drums and cymbals. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing and crafting. Those who knew her were well aware of her love for talking on the phone with family and friends.

In addition to her husband, Chelsie is survived by seven children, Robert (Linda) Shuman of Gnadenhutten, William (Bonnie) Shuman of Maryland, Timothy (Sherri) Shuman of Baltic, Stephanie (Bob) Roth of Strasburg, Kenneth (Missy) Shuman of New Philadelphia, Kathyrn (David) Exline of Hanoverton, and Carolyn (Greg) Evans of Brimfield.

Completing the family are a sister, Dorothy (Herbert) Dickens of Kentucky, 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Chelsie was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Shuman; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Vivian (John) Carson and Jo Ann (James) Humphress, and 3 grandchildren.

The family will greet guests on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, from 4 – 7 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A service celebrating Chelsie’s life will be led by Caleb Conley and Tim Hatfield on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, in the funeral home’s chapel at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in the East Avenue Cemetery. A meal and fellowship will follow the services in the social hall of the Church of Christ.
