Charles Thomas “Tom” Herman, 77, of McDonough, GA, formerly of Athens, IL died at 9:30 pm, Sunday, February 28, 2021 at Piedmont Henry Hospital in Georgia. He was born April 18, 1943 in Riverton, IL to William and Freda (Rheude) Herman. He married Janice Hilton on June 23, 1984 and she preceded him in death on September 29, 2016.
He is survived by three sons, William (Rachel) Herman and Scott Herman, both of McDonough, GA and Thomas Herman; seven grandchildren; one great grandchild; four sisters, Bev Rohrig of Illiopolis, IL, Jennett (Ernie) Dannenberger of Springfield, Shearl (Ron) Herndon of Sherman and Bobbie Kinzey of Riverton; one brother, William Herman of Springfield; two step children, Lisa Daniels and Mike Robinson and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roy Herman and infant brother, Georgie Herman.
Tom was a member of Eagles Landing First Baptist Church. He belonged to the Springfield Crappie Club and Eastern Missouri Crappie Club with his lifelong friend, Van Pierceall.
He retired from Conway Central Express. Tom was formerly a Menard county Sheriff Deputy and was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam War.
Visitation: 5 – 7 pm, Thursday, March 4, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Sherman.
Funeral Service: 8:30 am, Friday, March 4, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Sherman with Pastor Calvin Miller officiating.
Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Protective League.
CDC Protocol shall be followed.
