Charles T. Traw, long time partner in the Leff Law Firm, died December 29, 2024, surrounded by family.
A celebration of life will be held at 3pm, Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Zion Lutheran Church, with Pastor Marsha Smith officiating. The family will greet friends 1-3pm at the church prior to service.
Chuck was born May 13, 1941, in Chicago and raised in Cedar Rapids by Dorothy and step-father Merlyn (Curly) Myers. Chuck graduated from Washington High School in 1959. Thereafter, he received his bachelor’s degree from University of Iowa and his Juris Doctorate, with highest distinction, from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1967. While at Iowa, he was on the baseball team, a cheerleader, a member of Phi Delta Theta, and an editor of the Iowa Law Review.
Chuck was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he enjoyed The Lost Boy’s men’s group. He was active in numerous local organizations and served on several boards, including the Iowa City Public Library, the Crisis Center, the I-Club, and Project Green. He was a fine attorney, and especially enjoyed arbitration, becoming president of the American Academy of ADR attorneys.
He was a social animal and spent lots of time with his family and friends, traveling, skiing, biking, running marathons and gardening.
Chuck is survived by his wife A.K., daughter Nikki (Debbie Englestad), son-in-law Tommy White, grandchildren, Caden Traw, Owen Traw, and Jacey Englestad, sister-in-law Marilyn Lang, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Aunt and Uncle Christine and George Traw, and daughter Kelly.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Zion Lutheran Church (310 N Johnson St, Iowa City, IA 52240) or to Iowa City Hospice (1526 Sycamore St, Iowa City, IA 52240).
