Charles Richard Henderson
- September 13, 2021
Charles “Richard” Henderson, 88, passed away following a brief illness on Friday, September 10, 2021 at home in Hendersonville, NC. He was a lifelong resident of Henderson County where he developed his never-ending passions for flying, hunting and auto racing.
Richard passed away with his three children by his side. Richard is survived by his daughters Kerry Spachman (Jimmy) and Debra Henderson, and son Ross Henderson (Kim); grandchildren Jordan Heath (Dylan), Andrew Morgan, Liz Morgan, McKenna Spachman, Jarrett Spachman and great-grandchildren Caleb, Greyson and Blakeleigh; sisters Phyllis Cone and Carol Walters (Terry) and many brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mack & Louise Henderson, brother David Henderson and his beloved wife of fifty-two years, Pat.
In September of 1961, Richard married the love of his life, Patricia Gibbs and they remained together until her death in 2013. He obtained his plumbing contracting license in 1970, establishing his own company and forged a long and respected career in Henderson County, continuing to work until a few years before his death.
Richard had a passion for flying, a tireless interest in airplanes and was always seeking an opportunity to experience the cockpit and take the captain’s seat. In addition to flying, he had a love of auto racing and obtained his NASCAR license; never losing the desire to chase the thrill of being behind the wheel of a powerful engine.
He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Interment will be private with a celebration of life in honor of Richard to be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Four Seasons Hospice, 571 South Allen Rd., Flat Rock, NC 28731.
