Charles R. “Rick” Bremhorst

Charles R. “Rick” Bremhorst, age 88 of Springfield, passed away March 15, 2022 at his home. He was born June 15, 1933 in Ottumwa, Iowa to C.H. Bremhorst and Dorothy Wright Bremhorst. He married Charlotte Ann Sonnergren in Schenectady, NY in 1958. She preceded him in death in 2017.

Rick graduated from Galesburg High School in 1951. He then attended Northwestern University where he played basketball and graduated in 1957. During that time Rick enlisted in the Army and served for two years before returning to Northwestern to finish his degree. Rick was a retired General Electric manager in Chicago and held various positions in engineering, manufacturing and marketing in Ft. Wayne, IN, Dekalb, IL., Schenectady NY, St. Louis MO, and Baltimore MD. He was a former member of the U.S. Power Squadron where he completed every course they offered. He also held a US Coast Guard License. He enjoyed boating on Lake Michigan, fishing, golf, tennis, and studying the Bible and history of the Middle Ages. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. In his final years, his biggest joys were times together with his kids, grandkids, and great granddaughter and spending time with his beloved caregivers, Dawn and Ashleigh.

Survivors include son James (Linda) Bremhorst of Springfield, daughter Nancy Bremhorst of Springfield, sister Sandra MacArthur of Sarasota FL, grandchildren Katherine (Corby) Dodge, Peter Bremhorst, and Mary Ellen Bremhorst. Great granddaughter Charlotte Dodge. And many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on March 25 from 10:30 – 11:30 at Staab Funeral Home, followed by a service at 11:30. Burial will be at 1:00 at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
