Charles Kenneth Suter

Charles Kenneth Suter 93, of Springfield, died Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at Memorial Hospital in Springfield, IL. He was born March 30, 1929 in Scott County, IL to Alexander and Ida Mae (Strowmatt) Suter. He married Wanda Mae Boston on October 3, 1953 and she preceded him in death in 2017.

Kenneth worked on the family farm in his youth. At age 21 he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in occupied Germany as a Radio Operator in the 1st Infantry Division. After being honorably discharged in January 1953, he returned to Springfield and worked as a tool & die maker at Allis Chalmers for 37 years.

Kenneth was the consummate shade tree mechanic and handyman, and he loved sharing his skills with anyone who needed a hand. Family was the most important thing in the world to him. In his younger days, he enjoyed riding motorcycles with his buddies, working on various projects around the house, and running errands around town with Samson, his faithful dachshund. He was a certified diver and volunteered for the Springfield Underwater Search and Rescue Team. A talented self-taught guitarist, he played in local country-western bands in the 1960s. He was a member of West Side Christian Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Kendra (Greg) Langdon of Springfield; three grandchildren, Wendi (Bill) Brincken, Elizabeth Ongman (Kevin Miller), and Garrett Nolan (Jessica Handy); six great grandchildren, Halei, Jake (Luz Marcela), Jeremy and Zack Brincken and Emma and Chloe Ongman; one great-great grandchild, Kyle Shaw, Jr. and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one daughter, Lora Lynn Suter and eight older siblings.

Visitation: 9:30 – 10:30 am, Saturday, December 10, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Funeral Service: 10:30 am, Saturday, December 10, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Chaplain Jeff Harter officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
