Charles Fredric “Fred” Torgler

Charles Fredric “Fred” Torgler, 86, of New Philadelphia, passed away Saturday, December 4, 2021 in Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia following a period of declining health.
A son of the late Charles J. and Grace E. (Hill) Torgler, Fred was born January 2, 1935 at New Philadelphia, Ohio.
Fred graduated from Midvale High School in 1952. Then on May 22, 1954, he married the former Martha L. Barcus.
He was a longtime employee of GTE and retired after 40 years of service. After his retirement, Fred started Fred’s Telephone Service which he owned and operated for many years.
Fred was an avid outdoorsman who especially enjoyed hunting deer, turkey and mushrooms. He also enjoyed fishing with his son, Jim. Fred could also often be found “tinkering” around his house or working in his garden. He also enjoyed traveling and his favorite trip was to Europe with Martha to celebrate their 50th Anniversary.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Martha Torgler; his children, Carol (Jim) Powell, Jim Torgler and Marla Torgler; a grandson, Nathaniel Powell and great-granddaughters, Morgan and Kennedy.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, a son, David Torgler and his sister, Peggy Ann Stover.
In keeping with Fred’s wishes, there will be no calling hours and cremation will take place through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.
