Charles “Dick” Richard Terrell, 96, of Swisher, passed away on September 27, 2024, at the Solon Nursing home. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Celebration of Life service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at Brosh Chapel. Burial will be held at the Anderson Cemetery in Swisher. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre are assisting the family.

Dick was born on May 11, 1928, in Hinsdale, Illinois, the son of Charles and Huldah (Schonborn) Terrell. He married the love of his life, Sherrill Ruth Edblom Harding, on September 9, 1949, at Evangelical Free Church in Coralville. They farmed near Coralville until buying their own farm near Swisher in March of 1954, where they raised cattle and hogs. They continued farming and then started a construction company for earthmoving in 1959, until it evolved into the underground utility company, known as Terrell Construction Inc. In 1990, Dick and sons started a directional drilling company where he worked full time until retiring at the age of 80.

Dick is survived by four of his children, Pamela Kay (Richard) Leichsenring of Middle Amana, Rebecca Ann (Tim) Weyer of Portland, Oregon, Thomas Leroy (Dawn) Terrell of Swisher, and Timothy Loren (Lorrie) Terrell of Swisher; grandchildren Jennifer (Mark) Hemmeyer and Gregory Weyer of Portland, Oregon, Jesse Leichsenring (Olivia Seehafer) of Baraboo, Wisconsin, Matthew Leichsenring of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Sonya LaGrange (Matt Ironside) of Swisher, Samantha Ternes of South Carolina, Andy and Kalli Terrell of Swisher; great-grandchildren are Paul, Ayla and Gabriel Hemmeyer, Nate and Annie Leichsenring, Preston, Colton, Sadie, Landyn and Kadyn LaGrange, and Jaxton, Maddex, Xavier and Lincoln Ternes; his sister Shirley Rammelsberg of Fairfax; his brother Ernest (Effie) Terrell of Illinois; sister-in-law Carol Terrell of Illinois; as well as his nieces and nephews.

Dick is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 57 years Sherrill Ruth Edblom, his son Richard Gordon Terrell, great-grandson Casey Leichsenring, and his brother Joseph Terrell.

Memorials may be directed to Swisher American Legion or the Jefferson Monroe Fire Department in his name.
