Charles “Charlie” F. Bauer

Charles “Charlie” F. Bauer, 95, of Mansfield, passed away at OhioHealth Mansfield on Wednesday, December 1, 2021.
Charlie was born February 1, 1926 in Mansfield, Ohio to the late Charles and Alice (Horn) Bauer. He retired in 1988 from Westinghouse after 45 years of dedicated service, and was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ. Previously, Charlie was affiliated with the Venus Lodge #152 Free and Accepted Masons. Charlie loved outdoor activities, golf, softball and also enjoyed bowling. He was a great pitcher for fast pitch softball and was called “Cannon Ball Charlie”. Most of all Charlie, loved and cherished his family and the memories they shared together.
He leaves behind his wife whom he married on July 15, 1950, Beverly (Barrett) Bauer; his children, Charles D. (Chris) Bauer and Steven (Sandy) Bauer both of Mansfield; his grandchildren, Adrian (Jason) Reynolds, Shannon (J.R.) Stevens, Michael Peterson, Sarah (Skylar) Mease, Tricia (Mike) Fisher, Robyn (Jayson) Stone, and Craig (Sarah) McMillen; fourteen great-grandchildren and one on the way; his sister, Dorothy Layman; his sister-in-law, Virginia Bauer of Ashland; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William Bauer; and a brother-in-law, Glenn Layman.
Family and friends may visit from 1:00-2:00 pm on Monday, December 6, 2021 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St. Funeral services will follow immediately at 2:00 pm. Charlie will be laid to rest in Mansfield Cemetery. Please make memorial contributions to St. John’s United Church of Christ.
