Cassandra “Cassey” Rose Gearhart
Cedar Rapids
Cassandra “Cassey” Rose Gearhart, 44, of Cedar Rapids died September 17, 2024, at home following a sudden illness. Her vibrant presence has been taken from us far too soon, leaving a void in the hearts of all who knew her.
Cassey was a true firecracker that lit up every room she entered. She was the life of every party, a beacon of joy that drew people in from all walks of life. Her ability to light up a room was unmatched, and her network of friends seemed endless. It felt like Cassandra knew everybody, and more importantly, everybody knew and loved Cassandra. Her love for her family and friends was boundless.
What made her truly special was her gift for listening. No matter what was going on in her own life, Cassandra always had time to lend an ear to a friend in need. She was a confidante to many, and her advice was as valuable as her infectious laughter.
Born on July 17, 1980, in Worcester, MA, Cassey was the daughter of Steven and Stacy Wetherbee Gearhart. She graduated from Xavier High School in 1999. Cassey worked at General Mills, Inc., where she was very excited to be recently promoted. She also had worked at Mr. B’s Bar, Stadium Bar and Grill, and Wild Hogs Saloon and Eatery. Many knew her as the friendly face behind the bar where her quick wit and warm smile made every patron feel at home.
Cassey was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She took great pleasure tending to her garden, going to garage sales, spending time in the pool and soaking up the sun. Cassey also had a passion for storm chasing and, above all, embraced life to the fullest.
She is survived by her three children, Bryce, Brayden and Carter; parents, Steve and Stacy Gearhart; siblings, Catrine Kraveichvi, Stephanie (Jason) Matheny, Jason (Shavonda) Gearhart, Mindy (Nate) Cornelius, Zack (Bree) Hartman, Mitch Hartman, and Cameron Gilbertson; nieces and nephews, Rylee, Warren, Houston, Jazmin, Jaxon, Owen, Cora, Gracelyn, Parker, Samuel, and Chase; and lifetime friend, Keela Roberts.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Chuck and Amy Gearhart and Robert Wetherbee and Donna Stacy; stepdad Dan Hartman and uncles Robert Wetherbee and Kevin T. McDonald.
A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Jude Catholic Church, officiated by Rev. Nick March. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home, and on Tuesday at the church after 9 a.m.
Cassey will be deeply missed by everyone that knew her. Her warmth, her ability to bring joy to others, and her boundless love for life and those around her will forever be remembered. Memorials may be directed to the family.
