Carol Lee Wehage, 84, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2024. Two years prior, she’d fought her way back from a very serious illness which nonetheless left her in a permanently weakened state. Her latest bout with illness this summer eventually took her life. We, her family, have been very blessed to have had these additional last two years with Carol.
Born in Stamford, CT, Carol lived her whole adult life here in Cedar Rapids, IA. She and Chuck, her husband of nearly 63 years, have been long time members of first, St. Pius Catholic Church, and then later, St. Patrick’s Parish.
Carol is survived by her husband Chuck, her daughter, Karen (Todd LeMense) of Omaha, NE, and granddaughter, Regina LeMense of Chicago.
Carol was a very intelligent, strong woman who had great gifts for planning and detail management. She likewise had a quick wit and good sense of humor.
Carol enjoyed many good friendships and activities including bridge, mahjong, golf, and travel. Additionally, she placed a great deal of importance on hospitality. She always made sure that guests felt welcome!
Carol was a “plant person” of the first order with an extraordinary green thumb. Her home, both inside and out, was always adorned with beautiful, thriving flowers and plants.
Carol was a dog lover and for decades cared for many sweet shelties. In her final years, however, she reluctantly grew to love her two grand-dogs, mini-Aussies Barron and Cozy, collectively known as “the Hooligans.”
As per Carol’s wishes, a small private funeral Mass will be said for her Friday morning at St Patrick’s. Carol will be laid to rest at Cedar Memorial.
