Carol A. Helmerichs

Carol A. Helmerichs, 81 of Springfield, died at 8:40 pm, Sunday, January 17, 2021 at Prairie Rose Health Care Center in Pana. She was born January 3, 1940 in Springfield, to Kenneth and Margaret Carter Josephson. She married Richard G. Helmerichs on September 9, 1989, and he preceded her in death on November 24, 2002.

Survivors include one daughter, Tavia (Roger) Jones of Pana; five grandchildren, John Ervin (Gabby Mason) of Aurora, Nora Ervin of Aurora, Will (Rebecca) Ervin of Joliet, Paul (Cathy) Unsbee of Bloomington, and Ian Unsbee of Springfield, and three great grandchildren, Rachel Unsbee, Liam Ervin, and Abigail Unsbee.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and one son, Rick Unsbee.

Carol was a member of the Historic Grace Lutheran Church. She served as trustee for Gardner Township. She had a passion for Veteran’s concerns and was very patriotic. She treasured her time with special friends from the Lanphier days.

Carol retired from the State of Illinois, Department of Motor Vehicles.

Graveside Service: 11 am, Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Oak Ridge Cemetery with Pastor Tom Krieger officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Veteran’s Home in Quincy.
