Carl E. Miller

Carl Eugene Miller Sr. 95, of Hendersonville went home to be with the Lord on December 28th, 2021.    He was 95.   He is survived by three sons, Carl E. Miller, Jr. of Arden, NC, George Mitchell Miller of Daytona, FL, Brett D. Miller of Fletcher, NC and one sister, Anita Kinnamon of Galion, OH.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgene S. Miller, parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. E.B.  and Minnie E. Miller and also siblings Arthur, Donald, Marilyn and Ola.  He graduated from Ponce De Leon High School, Miami Fl and entered into the Navy branch of the Armed Services where he served as a medic with Fleet Hospital No.107 Okinawa and Guam Memorial Hospital in the later stages of World War II, the Pacific theatre.  There he cleaned war wounds and gave immunizations to civilians after the end of the Battle of Okinawa, the largest amphibious invasion in the Pacific, which took over 200,000 soldier and civilian lives on the small island. During this time, he survived Typhoon Louise, in the elements with many men without shelter.  This devastating storm sank and grounded many ships and aircraft and claimed over 80 American lives.  Upon his return to the states, he became an electrician/ project manager by trade, retiring from Brevard Electric in 1999.  There he was a valuable team member credited with work on many of our regional buildings from Brevard College to Western Carolina University.  One of his most notable projects, was his part in the construction of the Lyn Lowry Memorial cross in Haywood County.  At 6300 feet of elevation shining on the Balsam mountains, the 60-foot beacon of light and hope can be seen for over 30 miles.  His likes were fishing, yard work with vegetable gardens, building models and Sunday pro football.

A member of the greatest generation, Miller was also a member of the American Legion Post 77, Hendersonville, NC and the Masonic Lodge #260, Coral Gables, FL.  A man of word, firm discipline and high standards, he devoted his adult life in devotion to his three sons, his wife of 62 years and country.

One of his most favorite passages was that of Psalm 121, I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills from whence cometh my help, my help cometh from the Lord, maker of heaven and earth.  He has now been called home.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00PM Tuesday Jan. 4th, 2022. At Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Hendersonville, NC.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Georgene S. Miller Memorial Scholarship Fund at Blue Ridge Community College or to a Veterans fund of your choice in his memory.
