Buster Metcalf

Buster Metcalf, 86, of New Philadelphia, passed away in Aultman Compassionate Care on December 31, 2020.
Born in New Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Raymond Metcalf and Freda (McKnight) Metcalf DeNicola.
He was a 1954 graduate of New Philadelphia High School where he played on the 1953 undefeated Quaker football team. Buster then honorably served his country in the United States Navy. In 1961, he began his career as a machinist with the former Joy Technologies where he worked for 30 years before his retirement in 1991. At Joy, he was a member of the J.I.R.A.
Buster was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Church and a member of both the B.P.O.E. #510 and a past member of the New Philadelphia Eagles. He was also very active with the Dover and Tuscarawas County Historical Societies.
Buster is survived by his family including his wife, Roberta “Birdie” A. (Feeley) Metcalf who he married June 9, 1956; his children, Michael (Karen) Metcalf, Julie (Lance) Johnson, Dianna (Shannon)Young, Catherine (Kevin) Reilly, Elizabeth (Rob) Rennicker; 12 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; his brother, Ted (Delores) Metcalf; and sister-in-law, Susan (Larry) Murphy. Numerous nieces and nephews complete the family.
In addition to his parents and step-father, Nicholas DeNicola, Buster was preceded in passing by his daughter, Anita Metcalf; and his siblings, Jim Metcalf, Jack Metcalf, and Sandra Creamer.
Father Jeff Coning will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Church on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 beginning at 11 am. No public visitation will precede the mass. Masks will be required at all events in addition to social distancing observed. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia where the New Philadelphia VFW will render military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Sacred Heart Church, 139 3rd St NE, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
