Bryan Michael Smith, 60, of Marion, Iowa, passed away surrounded by his loved ones Monday, October 7, 2024, at St. Luke’s Hospital. Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 AM, Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories in Cedar Rapids, with a Celebration of life to follow at 10:30 AM.

Bryan was born on June 19, 1964, in Two Harbors, Minnesota, the son of Francis and Kathy Smith. After graduating from Anoka High School in 1982, Bryan then went on to obtain his technical degree from the Brown Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Upon completion of his technical degree, he then moved to Cedar Rapids to pursue a Bachelor of Computer Science degree from Mt. Mercy University, graduating in 1994. After starting at Rockwell Collins in November of 1985, Bryan went on to proudly serve 38 years with the company until his passing.

On May 27, 1995, Bryan was united in marriage to his wife Ann, where they would go on to have two wonderful children, Breanna and Brennan. Bryan was a proud father, and his greatest enjoyment was to attend his children’s activities and sporting events. Nothing made him happier than watching his children succeed. Bryan was also passionate about education, previously volunteering at the Cedar Rapids Public Library teaching young children how to navigate computers. He also enjoyed volunteering for his children’s kindergarten teacher, “Mr. H” at Emerson Elementary, where many children adored him, calling him “Mr. Smith.”

Bryan’s other interests included spending time in the beautiful Minnesota outdoors, cheering on the Vikings and bowling Wednesday nights at Cedar Rapids Bowling Center alongside his teammates and children. Bryan’s proudest bowling accomplishment was rolling his first 300 at the age of 58. More than bowling himself, Bryan was the biggest cheerleader and supporter of his family and friends and loved sharing the joy and happiness of others accomplishments. Bryan enjoyed many board and puzzle games, as well as playing cards with friends and family. At the end of the day, Bryan and Ann would compete to see who could complete the daily sudoku challenges the fastest.

Bryan is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife Ann of 29 years, his children Breanna (Blake) Eldridge of Cedar Rapids, and Brennan Smith of Marion; his mother Kathy Smith and siblings Kevin, Debbie and Greg Smith of Anoka, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his father, Francis Smith.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at St. Luke’s Hospital for the compassionate, loving care that was extended to Bryan.
