Bruce Thompson (April 20, 1947 – December 17, 2020)

Of Fontana

Bruce Thompson was born April 20, 1947 in Elkhorn, Wisconsin to Richard Earl and

Mary Munn (Hayes) Thompson.  He passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2020.

Robert Bruce Thompson was an incredible person. He had an undeniable love for the water and he spent many days on Geneva Lake enjoying the beauty of all that surrounded him. He was always seen wearing his bright red hat and coat, capturing images of ice boats in the winter and gazing at the breathtaking sunsets on clear summer nights.

He loved everyone and he would surely greet those he knew with a wonderful hug. His laugh was contagious and his eyes were kind. He made everyone feel special, important, and loved. He was always willing to help anyone in need. He loved his family with every ounce of his soul and he made that apparent each and every day. His friends and family knew him as a man that loved deeply, honestly, and with a firm understanding of what’s most important – simply loving the life you have.

Bruce loved to plant flowers in the summertime, pet every dog in the neighborhood, take walks in the evening, go fishing up north, and tell stories that would make everyone laugh. When he wasn’t spending time at the Thompson Art Gallery, he would be out with his camera, taking pictures of the outdoors, capturing those special moments that are so easily missed during our busy lives.

He left us with fantastic memories. We deeply grieve the loss of Bruce, but he has left behind an incredible gift – the ability to see the world through his eyes, in all of his photographs. We are so thankful for this special gift.

Bruce always said that every day had a silver lining and we know that Bruce truly was our silver lining in every day.

Bruce is survived by his wife Joan Elaine (Galauner) Thompson, whom he married

in 1976 in Walworth; his children Ben Thompson and Emily (Robert Helkowski) Thompson;

grandson Luca Perez; and brother Dan Thompson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard “Dick” (Hazy) Thompson.

Memorials may be given to Fellow Mortals Wildlife Hospital, Lakeland Animal Shelter, and the Geneva Lake Conservancy. Services for Bruce will be held at a later date.
