Billy Gene Lange
Mt. Vernon
Billy Gene Lange, age 74, of Mt. Vernon, IA, passed away at his home on Saturday, April 6, 2024.
Bill was born October 11, 1949, in Cedar Rapids, IA, the son of Harry Victor and Wiona Walaska (Ohrt) Lange. He graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1967. On October 12, 1968, he was united in marriage to Connie Sue Forest. Bill was a long-term owner and operator of Lange’s Service Station in Mt. Vernon. He enjoyed going to the casino, fishing, ’60s country music and having a cold Miller Lite. Bill was proud to donate to any cause and was a huge supporter of his community and the school district. He would do anything for anyone, and if he couldn’t, he would find a way to get it done. Bill loved family get-togethers and especially following his grandchildren’s events. Nothing made him more proud then watching his grandchildren doing what they love.
Survivors include his three sons, Pat Lange of Mt. Vernon, Jason (Sara) of Marion, and Kasey (Sara) of Mt. Vernon; five grandchildren, Jacob, Stefani, Wylie, Mallie, and Teagan; siblings, Beverly Chunka of Omaha, NE and Brenda Potter of Canton, IA; brothers-in-law, Ronnie (Janice) Forest of Mt. Vernon and Al (Deb) Forest of Cedar Rapids; sisters-in-law, Linda (Fred) Hunter of Hopkinton, IA, and Kaylene Forest of Cedar Rapids, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of almost 50 years, Connie Lange; his sister, Bonnie Mealman; sister-in-law, Bonnie (Kenny) Schoff; brothers-in-law, John Chunka and Fred Potter.
