Betty Louise Kochert

Betty Louise Kochert, age 86, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. She was born April 4, 1935, in Mansfield, Ohio, to the late Ruth Catherine (Keller) and John James Karsmiski.

Betty had previously worked at Ohio Brass, H.L. Reid and retired from JCPenney in 2008. She was a remarkable bow hunter and helped found the Mohican Bowhunter’s Club. Betty was an avid bowler in her younger years. She loved horses and enjoyed lovingly caring for them. She was an all-around animal lover, having geese, goats, cats, dogs and horses. Being outdoors brought a great sense of peace and her many nature walks were a joy to her. Feeding the birds was one of her favorite pastimes. Betty also enjoyed painting and reading mystery novels in her free time.

She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Subich, and Kathy (Anthony) Salyers; four grandchildren, Amanda (Steve) Bayes, Christopher Kochert, Timothy Kochert (Ashley Pavlick) and Steven Kochert; numerous great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marilyn Penrose.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Kochert; son, Michael Kochert; parents; and siblings, Jean Barber and Dean “Bud” Karsmiski.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Sunday, March 27, 2022, from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. She will be laid to rest in Oak Grove Memorial Park. Honoring Betty’s love for animals, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Richland County.
