Betty Lois Case King

Our dear sweet mama, Betty Lois Case King, entered life on top of Bearwallow Mountain in Edneyville, NC, on February 20, 1937. She was the second youngest child of Charles “Tom” Case and Milzie Bradley Case, now both passed. She was proceeded in death by her siblings Margie Frazier, Jean Edmundson, Raymond Case, Evelyn Baker, and JT Case. She is survived by Sarah (Darald) Watkins of Hendersonville, a much loved and cherished younger sister to this day.

Betty married Boyd Leonard King, Sr. at Donaldson Air Force Base in Greenville, SC, on August 31, 1957. Mama worked hard at home raising their children as Boyd served 20 years in the Air Force.  They lived over 50 years in their home in Flat Rock, NC, surrounded by their apple orchard and family. Both Betty and Boyd came from large loving families that settled in the surrounding areas, always gathering for Sunday meals, events, and support. Mama was known to play her piano for all there and at her church. Mama was a devout Christian in all that she did. Her love for music was passed on to all of her children.

In Betty’s younger years she sang in a quartet and even recorded an album called, “Just a Rose Will Do.” She graduated from Flat Rock High School, Blanton’s Business School, and attended Western Carolina College.  Duraline Imaging in Hendersonville, NC, had the pleasure of Betty’s hard work ethic and ever kind personality for 25 years.

All of Betty’s descendants were much loved by her and they continue to love her today. Phyllis (Mark) Goff of Brevard, NC is the oldest with Rachel Barton and Levi (Jessica) Goff. Boyd “Leonard” King, Jr. (Lauri) followed with his children Faith, Joy (Aaron) Davenport, and Matthew, all of Ohio. Bonnie (Paul) Hanson of Hendersonville is the youngest with Amanda (Steven) Bell and April (Greg) McMurray. Betty also cherished her step-daughter Laura (Mark) Whaley of White Mountain Lake, AZ.

Along with her seven grandchildren, Betty also coveted every precious moment she had with her eight great-grandchildren: McKinley and Raelynn Barton, Lauthea and Gavin Goff, Nolan, Noelle, and Noah King, and Adonai Bell. Betty was also very close to her King brothers and sisters-in-laws, many still local and with us today.

Mama passed away peacefully in the home of daughter Phyllis (Mark) Goff on Friday, March 25, 2022, days after turning 85 years old. Arrangements are being handled by Shuler Funeral Home at 125 Orr’s Camp Road, Hendersonville, NC 28792. The family welcomes visitors on Friday, March 4, 2022, at 1:00 pm.
