Betty Jean LaBarge, 92, of Springville, Iowa, formerly of Central City, Iowa, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2024. The family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Monday, June 17, 2024, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at the funeral home. Luncheon will follow at the Springville American Legion. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Hazel Knoll Cemetery in rural Central City.

Betty was born on December 28, 1931, in Pleasant Hill, Missouri, the daughter of Ora Artell and Ruth Ann (Booze) Ransier. She was a graduate of Marion High School. On February 12, 1954, Betty was united in marriage to Richard Eugene LaBarge at Baptist Church in Marion. Together, Betty and Richard farmed and worked the land, raising a variety of crops, including many years raising and selling vegetables. She also worked for Household Finance out of high school and was employed by Square D and Rockwell. She was known for her cooking, especially pies and potato salad. She was mechanically inclined and fixed things in creative and unique ways. Betty enjoyed playing card games and watching birds. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Betty will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Betty is survived and lovingly remembered by her children, Michael LaBarge, Diane (Tony) Chapman, and Bradley LaBarge; two grandchildren, Brandon (Ann Marie) French and Brenda Chapman; three great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Eli, and Chloee French; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Cecilia and Hunter LaGrange; two stepgreat-great-grandchildren, Willow and Maryann Hames; brother, Harold (Lois) Ransier; sister-in-law, Shirley LaBarge; and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 39 years, Richard; brother, William (Lenore) Ransier; sisters, Dorothy (Marvin) Wilson, Esther (Robert) Nelson, and Genevieve (Ralph) Merck; brother-in-law, Robert LaBarge; sister-in-law, Shirley Ransier; and daughter-in-law, Erin LaBarge.
