Betty (Elizabeth) Jean Rock Laiche

Betty (Elizabeth) Jean Rock Laiche, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on Aug. 8, 2023, at the age of 94. She was born on Sept. 22, 1928, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She attended St. Patrick’s elementary and High School, graduating in 1946. She went to work for Lynch Transfer and Storage, learning secretarial and bookkeeping duties. In 1953, she married and later moved to New Orleans to start a family. While still raising their five children, she returned to work with Wurzburg Brothers, Inc., helping to manage the office. She then joined Delta Air Lines, in the flight attendant office, eventually retiring in 1994.
Betty was a long-time parishioner of Our Lady of Divine Providence Catholic Church. In her younger years, she sang in the choir and loved to sew. She also enjoyed reading, and the occasional games with her daughters and granddaughter.
She is survived by her husband of over 69 years, Alces J. Laiche Jr.; daughters, Kathryn Laiche Arce, Julie A. Laiche and Patricia Laiche Daigle (Dennis); sons, John T. Laiche and James E. Laiche; granddaughter, Rachael Daigle Borne (Michael); and many nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Cletus Joseph Rock, Ellen McDonough Rock; sister, June Rock Grady; and brother, Baby Boy Rock.
Special thanks to all those who personally cared for her these past few months.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., in New Orleans, on Tuesday, Aug. 22, at noon. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Betty will be laid to rest in All Saints Mausoleum following the chapel service.
