Barry L. Jacobson

Barry L. Jacobson

Facing a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer in April of this year, Barry Jacobson met that challenge with the dignity and determination that he approached everything in his life.  Surrounded by his loving family, he succumbed to the disease on December 18, 2023.

Barry was born on December 26, 1946 in Morris, Illinois to Lloyd and Betty (Thorson) Jacobson.  He was raised in Newark, Illinois where he met his wife, Joan (Hopkins).  They were married on January 29, 1966, and together raised three children.  After serving in Vietnam with the United States Air Force, where his work ethic and determination earned him the rank of Staff Sergeant, he returned to Newark and bought his first truck.  He founded J-M Transports in 1983 and built a reputation for integrity and dependability.  Barry enjoyed spending time with his family and was especially proud of his seven grandchildren.

Barry is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years, daughter Laurie (Kevin) Clausel and their sons Jack and Will, son Brad (Kristine Torkelson) and their children Kyle, Sam and Molly, son Jeff (Lisa Kunkel) and their children Rachel (Nick) Miller and Corey Jacobson.  His brother, Terry Jacobson, also survives, as well as sisters-in-law Jane Henning-Keisler and Jenelle Helland, and brother-in-law Dan Hopkins.  Countless nieces and nephews will mourn his loss, along with many dear friends that are like family.  Barry was preceded in death by his parents.
