Barbara Helen Krueger

Barbara Helen Krueger, 81, of Hendersonville passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2022.
Barbara was born on October 6,1940 in Thief River Falls, MN to Clarence and Frances
(Johnson) Cook of Newfolden, MN. She was raised in Newfolden and received her college
degree in English and Library Science from Augsburg University in Minneapolis, MN as well as
her Masters from UNC-Chapel Hill. Barb began her career as a school librarian, first in
Minnesota, then at an American base in Germany, where she met husband Alan. They later
settled and started a family in Falls Church, VA. She founded a consignment shop with friends
and then worked as a reference librarian for Fairfax County for the rest of her career. Barb and
Alan retired to Las Cruces, NM in 2001 and settled in Laurel Park, NC in 2014.
Barb was a connoisseur of chocolate, avid baker, animal lover, and voracious reader, especially
of mysteries. She had discerning tastes, a creative spirit, and exercised her skill at many crafts.
Barb was a keen traveler and spent several years living in Germany and France. She enjoyed
spending time with her family, friends, and pets.
Barbara will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 55 years, Alan Krueger; her daughter
Alicia, husband Paul and their daughter Iris of Perth, Australia; her son Michael of
Charlottesville, VA; brother David (Monna) Cook of Anderson, IN; brother-in-law Jim Winjum of
Scottsdale AZ; her cat Izzy, and many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by
her sister Kathy Winjum.
No formal service is presently planned. Memorial donations may be made in Barbara’s memory
to the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation; www.helpfightra.org or the Humane Society;
