Barbara “Bobbie” (Anderson) Shaffer passed away at Meth-Wick Community on Thursday, Aug. 11, 2022, with family by her side. Services will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 23, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with visitation at 10 a.m. and a memorial service starting at 11 a.m.

Bobbie was born Feb. 11, 1924, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of the late Leonard and Marie (Lorenz) Anderson. On May 8, 1943, Bobbie married William K. Shaffer in Phoenix, Ariz., and they had five children.

Never having attended college, she was a self-taught, well-educated woman who read the Gazette from cover to cover and did the crossword puzzle daily. She loved camping, music, singing in school and church choirs, and was a member of the Audubon Society, Indian Creek Nature Center and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. She was quite the artist, made beautiful crafts and was a master gardener without credentials.

Left to cherish Bobbie’s memory are her four sons and their wives, Mike (Becky), Tim (Carla), Jeff (Johnine) and Chris (Julie) Shaffer; her 16 grandchildren, Dan (Wendy) Hartman, Dana Myers, Kelly Shoudy, Kerry (Erin) Shoudy, Julie (Mike) McCormick, Theron K. (Lisa) Shaffer, Shannon Kinard, Matt (Kelly) Shaffer, Seth (Kristi) Shaffer, Nathan (Alania) Shaffer, Jennifer Shaffer, Jillian (Nick) Fowler, Scott Shaffer, and Jacob, Jeremy and Jasmine Shaffer; 33 great-grandchildren; and 37 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents; her baby brother, Lorenz; her daughter, Judy (and Ford) Shoudy; grandson, Don Shoudy; and her sister, Betty Anderson.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Indian Creek Nature Center, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church or may be directed to the family.
