Anne “Mandy” Anderson Hahn Sargent
Cedar Rapids
On December 3, 2024, Mandy Sargent broke free from the shackles of Lewy Body Dementia at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa.
Mandy was born on July 30, 1948, to Bill and Janice Hahn (Glasson) in Waterloo, Iowa. Upon graduation, she attended Stephens College and the University of Iowa, graduating with a degree in Special Education. Mandy and David Sargent were married on June 26, 1975, beginning a beautiful journey together that spanned 49 happy years.
Mandy worked successfully in education, banking and family service counseling. In her banking years, she shattered the glass ceiling with impeccable style. But her most treasured role was that of an exceptionally loving mother to Jesse, Toby, and Holly. She was their biggest cheerleader, fiercest protector and their best friend, all while intuitively nudging them to follow their own arrow.
Mandy was anything but conventional, and that was her superpower. She drove too fast, listened to her music too loud and attracted new friends wherever she went…she was magnetic, even in her final days. Mandy was fearless, strong and charismatic, offering sage wisdom and hilarious stories. She had an extraordinary gift for connecting with people, especially those who were hurting or struggling. She always knew how to bring comfort, even if that meant just listening.
One of the greatest joys of Mandy’s life was time spent with her beloved grandchildren: Grayson, Carsyn, and Britton. She was there when they took their first breaths and was instrumental in their upbringing as long as she was able. Her kindness and magic lives on in them, carrying her legacy forward.
Her memory lives on with her husband, David; her sisters, Sue Hawn (John) and Katy Rohle (David); her children, Jesse Sargent, Toby (Kim) Sargent, and Holly Kloubec (Nick); her grandchildren, Grayson Hand, Carsyn Hand, and Britton Kloubec; and nieces, nephews, and many special friends. No amount of time with Mandy would have been enough for her friends and family, but she leaves them with enough laughter, memories and funny nicknames to treasure until they meet again. Fly free Mandy!
“Warmth in abundance, even at shadowed back. In glimpses like incendiary rays, through etching stained glass. We will always see you. We carry your colors, all illuminated. Epistles begetting the cosmos. Each of us a canvas and a palette of your finest hues. Until we meet again.”
A Celebration of Life is planned for a later date. Arrangements are with Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Please share your support and memories with Mandy’s family on her Tribute Wall at www.stewartbaxter.com under Obituaries.
