Alvin W. Licht, 94, of Clarence, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2023, at the Clarence Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Nov. 3, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowden with Rev. Daniel Redhage officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery with military honors.
Alvin was born May 26, 1929, in Lowden to Richard and Claudine (Von Essen) Licht. He married Catharine Oltmanns on March 21, 1965, in Anamosa. She passed away on July 11, 2015.
Survivors include his son Noel (Robin) of Cedar Rapids; daughter-in-law Deborah Licht of DeWitt; grandchildren Brianne, Ryan, Addison, Emily, Andrew, and Ashley; brother Lawrence Licht of Clarence; and sisters Lucille Horman of Lowden and Eleanor Wenndt of Cedar Rapids.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son Mathew; sisters Lois Yutesler and Elaine Kroh; and brother Marvin Licht.
Alvin was raised on a farm two miles west of Lowden until moving to a farm one mile west of Lowden. He attended Trinity Lutheran School and Lowden public schools and afterward farmed with his father and eventually his son Mathew, retiring from the century farm. He spent two years in the military serving in the Korean Conflict (1951-1953).
Alvin was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church serving on various boards. He was also a member of the Lowden American Legion Post 366 serving five years as commander and a member of the Avenue of Flags. He later served six years on the Cedar County Extension Board and also was a director for Wheatland Mutual Insurance.
