Alma P. Gartner

Alma P Gartner (nee Forster), 91, of Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully of natural causes on December 16, 2020. She is predeceased by her loving husband, John, in 2018 after 62 years of marriage. Alma is survived by her three, beloved sons, John (retired Sergeant CPD) (Linda), Mathias (Laura), and Paul (Linda), affectionately referred to as her “Three Stooges.” Devoted and loving Oma of Marti (Shane), Heidi (Chris), Eric (Dana), Michael (Audrey), Alexandra (U.S. Navy), Maximilian, Hans, and Megan; great-grandmother of five. Loving, supportive, and adopted Aunt of Bernard II, Olga, Bernard III, and Michael Melus. Alma is also survived by sisters-in-law, Ruth and Irene, along with nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Andreas and Pauline; sisters, Emilie and Helene; brothers, Bill and John. Alma’s family was her life; an excellent cook and baker, knitter of all things warm that she happily gave as Christmas gifts, sewer and sock-darner extraordinaire, spending summers working in her garden and on her husband’s boat. A cup of coffee and a piece Kuchen or cookies was always ready to share at her kitchen table along with good conversation. Alma also worked for over 40 years as nurse/doctor’s assistant loving every minute of her career. Visitation and a brief service for Alma will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. A burial will be held in Spring/Summer 2021 where Alma and John will be united once again.
