Alicia M. De La Garza, of Chicago, Illinois, passed away on July 4, 2022 at age 92. She was born on August 21, 1929 in General Zuazua, Nuevo León – México, and was formerly of Monterrey, Nuevo León – México and Albuquerque, New Mexico. Beloved wife of the late Ramiro De La Garza Chapa. Devoted mother to Blanca (Daniel) Trevino, Nidia (A. Cruz) Escoto, Leticia (the late Leonard) Stensland, and Mirna (Fred) Carrera. Cherished grandmother to Daniel (Leonor), Katherine (Gregory), Sarah (Andres), Norma (Douglas), C. Al Jr., Edgar (Heather), Paul (Kristen), Sandra (Aaron), Matthew (Justin), Mark, Mirna V. (Gabe), and Kelly. Adored great grandmother of 20. Dear sister to Carmela, Guadalupe, and the late Cristela, Lucila, Marina, Hector and Jesus.
Alicia celebrated many sacraments and special occasions with the Trevino family of the St. Mary of the Woods Parish. Alicia was an avid gardener and had a special touch especially with her favorite flower, roses. She was practiced and gifted in crocheting and loved to bake and cook for and with her family; passing down many cherished recipes, customs, and traditions to her loved ones. She had a beautiful smile and heart and Alicia touched many lives with her kindness and good spirit. Alicia was the quintessential wife, mother, and grandmother and will be greatly missed.
A visitation will be held Thursday, July 7, 2022 at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 6150 N. Cicero Ave. Chicago IL from 9:00am-10:30am. A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary of the Woods Parish, 5955 N Hiawatha Ave, Chicago, IL 60646 at 11:00am. Interment at All Saints Cemetery to follow.
