Alice Lucille Gantt

Alice Gantt, 98, died on Monday, April 26, 2021. A native of St. Thomas, ND, Alice Swenson graduated as her high school valedictorian in 1938. Alice attended business school in Grand Forks, ND prior to moving to Washington, DC to support her ailing aunt. While there, Alice was employed as an auditor at National Security and Trust Company located catty-corner from the White House. After the end of WWII, Alice met the love of her life, John Gantt, an Army veteran, and employee at the National Archives. They were wed in St. Thomas, ND in July 1948. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Berkeley, CA. While there, Alice was a receptionist at Allied Wood Products.
In 1953, she gave birth to their first son, Steve. In 1954, the family moved to Ann Arbor, MI. In 1957, Alice gave birth to their second son, Bob. Alice excelled as a homemaker and mother for the next eighteen years while working from home as a transcriptionist for the University of Michigan. In 1985, Alice and John retired and then moved to Laurel Park in 1986. Alice was a Meals on Wheels and Friends of the Library volunteer. Alice always enjoyed connecting with family and friends. She loved crafting. She was an avid card player, belonging to several playing groups.
Alice is survived by her children, Steve and Bob, and her grandchildren, Eleanor, Justin, Jessica, and Melissa. Alice will be buried in a private ceremony at Shepard Memorial Park on Friday, April 30th.
