Alexandra Swafford Das

Alexandra Swafford Das, 85, of Hendersonville, NC passed away at her home on Wednesday, July 28, 2021.  Born in Chattanooga, TN, she was born as Barbara Irene Swafford to the late Dr. James Swafford and Thelma Swafford.  She was also preceded in death by her brother, Kelly Swafford and stepson, Patrick Johnson.

Alexandra received her education at the University of Tennessee, Indiana University, Butler University, and the Art Institute of France.  She was a retired Artist, Gilder and Muralist as well as a Licensed Realtor and pilot.  Her artwork can be found in Europe, the USA, and Canada.  Alexandra’s local work includes three 8 ft. murals at the new Hospice building and eight panels of gilding donors’ names, gilding at St. John in the Wilderness, Episcopal Bishop’s Chapel in Asheville, and murals in private homes in Hendersonville.

She contributed to her communities by serving on various boards: Big Brothers/Big Sisters in Indiana, Indiana Board of Realtors, Bicentennial Board for Indiana, the United Way Board in Indiana, the Blue Ridge Humane Society in Hendersonville and the Western North Carolina United Nations Board.  Alexandra also volunteered with many organizations.

Alexandra is survived by her loving husband, Carl J. Johnson of Hendersonville; her children, Amal Das, MD (Darlene) of Hendersonville; Krishna Das, MD (Paul Duval) of Hendersonville; and Alisha Das, PhD. (Michael Hayes) of Los Angeles; brothers, Fennis Swafford of Guntersville, AL, and Doyle (Ann) Swafford of Chattanooga, TN; grandchildren, Andrew Austin Clingman of Carbondale, CO; Michael Alexander Clingman of Asheville; Joshua Hayes and Daniel Hayes, both of Los Angeles, CA; and stepson, David Roberto of Annandale, VA.

No service is planned.  Please remember Alexandra in your own way.  One of her favorite charities was the Blue Ridge Humane Society, 88 Centipede Lane, Hendersonville, NC 28792.
