Alex M. Withers Jr., 65, of Mansfield, passed away at home on Wednesday, October 6, 2021. Alex was the son of Elex and Evelyn (Bond) Withers, and was born on April 27, 1956 in Mansfield, Ohio.
After graduating from Mansfield Senior High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy. After his time in the service, Alex moved to Decatur, Illinois where he worked at Wagner Castings Company and purchased his first home. Devoted to his family, he later returned to Mansfield to be with his mother, father, and siblings. Alex was proud of his country and loved to cast his vote. As a member of the Church of Christ, Alex’s faith was strong and he enjoyed reading his Bible. He almost always ended a telephone call with a prayer. Alex was committed to always being present and supportive for his family. He appreciated quality time with his loved ones and enjoyed watching television in their company. Alex enjoyed many other hobbies in life, such as: writing, drawing, photography, watching baseball, and listening to music. One of his favorite musicians, was Jimi Hendrix. Additionally, as an avid collector, Alex appreciated the beauty in everything.
He is survived by his siblings, Mark Withers, Jeff Withers, Anthony “Tony” Withers, Evelyn (Jerry) Saunders, and Ann Withers-Taylor; special aunt, Delores “Aunt Dee” Bond; several other aunts, uncles, cousins, and very close nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Fannie Withers, Chester “Mike” Withers, and Hattie Withers-Martin; and his grandparents, Lucious and Lucy Bond and Bill and Ida Withers.
Family and friends may visit from 11:00 am-12:00 pm on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond Street. Funeral services will begin immediately at 12:00 pm, conducted by Pastor James Bond. Alex will be laid to rest at Mount Hope Cemetery.
