Albert A. Cody, Sr., 82, of Springfield, died at 3:05 pm, Sunday, May 23, 2021 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born May 19, 1939 in Glenarm, IL to Campbell Melvin and Murlie Irene (Bowen) Cody.
Survivors include five children, Debi (Steve Ferrier) Cody of Springfield, Steve (Barb) Cody of Springfield, Troy (Lynn Burris) Cody of Springfield, Todd (Cheryl) Cody of Sherman and Deidra Dodd of IL; his childhood sweetheart of 55 years, Priscilla Ditty Cody; eleven grandchildren; several great grandchildren; step-father, Johnnie Hayes of Shelbyville; two sisters, Kay Kerr and
Kathy (Gene) Fickas; three brothers, Robert (Joann) Cody, Danny (Cindy) Cody and Richard (Lois) Cody; his good friend, Melissa Alexander of Springfield and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Albert Cody, Jr.; two brothers, Jim and John and one sister, Peggy.
Albert was a US Army veteran. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
He enjoyed driving and racing stock cars; was a Golden Glove Boxer; loved to read and paratrooping as well as all sports. He lived life to the fullest.
Albert was an over the road truck driver and had worked as a nurse.
Graveside Service: 11:00 am, Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Reverend Paul Hemenway officiating and where Military Honors will be conducted by the Sangamon County
Inter Veterans Burial Detail and the US Army.
The family will host a Celebration of Life 1 pm, Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at the American Legion Post #32, 1120 E. Sangamon Ave., Springfield, IL.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
CDC Protocol shall be followed.
