Alan Ray Slager
Cedar Rapids
Alan Ray Slager of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2024, after a long battle with metastasized renal cancer. Alane was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on June 10, 1960 to parents Clarence Fredrick Slager and Betty Jean Slager.
Surviving Alan is his brother Greg (Bev) and sister, Christi Nutt, and his aunt, Connie Wells. Also mourning Alan are his nieces and nephews, Carrie (Alberto) Zaragoza, Todd (Angie) Slager, Aeryn (Chris) Fisher, Kelsey Nutt and cousin Darcey Meyers.
Alan graduated from Cedar Rapids Washington High School and attended Kirkwood Community College. He worked in the maintenance department at Armstrong’s Department store until it’s closing in 1991, after which he went to work for Reliable Carpet Cleaning until his retirement in 2015. Alan enjoyed camping, canoeing, golf and a game of cribbage. He was a very good self taught cook and year around griller. His family looked forward to his traditional cheesecake that he always brought to the annual family Thanksgiving gathering. Alan was always upbeat and positive, which definitely added years to his shorten life.
Private family services will be held at a later date at which time, per Alan’s request, his ashes will be spread along the Wapsipinicon River by his favorite camping spot.
