Alan Henry Rathje, 93, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Friday, April 12, 2024, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 4 – 7 p.m. on Monday, April 15, 2024, at The Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood in Cedar Rapids. A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. A livestream of the funeral service may be accessed on the funeral home website tribute page for Alan under “photos and videos or media,” starting at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16, 2024.
Alan was born March 29, 1931, in Atkins, Iowa, the son of Albert and Louise (Gerhold) Rathje. He served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1951-55. Alan was united in marriage to Judy A. McGuire on February 27, 1993. He treasured the time spent with his family. Alan was a wonderful husband, dad, and grandpa.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Judy Rathje; children, Jeff (Tammy) Rathje, Jolene Rathje, Marvin (Sandy) Rathje, Melvin (Elaine) Rathje, Dale (Billie) Snider, Charles (Cindy) Snider, Kimberly (Todd) Ohnesorge, and Christa (Ron) Holtz; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sister, Maurine Rathje.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Louise Rathje; sister, Arlene McMann; and brother-in-law, Paul McMann.
