Abigail “Abbi” Smith
Cedar Rapids
Abigail “Abbi” Smith, 18, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on Friday, Oct. 14, 2022, after persevering a two-year journey with a brain tumor. She is now truly at home. A Celebration of Life will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at Teahen Funeral Home by Daniel Dietz.
Abbi was born on April 13, 2004, in Mount Pleasant, to Brian R. and LaVonne A. (Warner) Smith. She leaves behind her parents; two sisters, Soleil Warner of Des Moines and Mariah Warner of Cedar Rapids; and one brother, Garrett Smith of Cedar Rapids. Other survivors include grandparents, great-grandparents, nieces, nephews, many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Although her life was cut short, Abbi lived every bit of it to the fullest. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in May of 2022 as a Valedictorian and was a member of the National Honor Society, having achieved many honors and distinctions. Abbi was involved in show choir and many sports including soccer, swimming, basketball, track and bowling. She played the clarinet, too, but singing and dancing were her passion. Abbi was a hard worker in and out of school. She held two part-time jobs, childcare at the Midwest Athletic Club and was a cashier at Fareway grocery store until shortly after her diagnosis.
Abbi was a shining light wherever she went! She had a love for music, especially country and worship. Abbi absolutely adored her family. She was a great encourager and had a way of making every person feel special. Abbi was very competitive and enjoyed games of all kinds. Ultimately, she will be remembered for her love of Jesus and of others, which radiated from her and was expressed in that amazing big smile everyone knew so well.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for an established memorial fund.
