Willie Wayne Whitley, age 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on November 20th, 2025, at his home, in Granbury, Texas.

Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 P.M. on Monday, November 24, 2025, at the Wiley Funeral Home, 400 Highway 377 East in Granbury. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 2 P.M., Tuesday, November 26, at Waples Baptist Church, 1200 Temple Hall Highway, in Granbury. Burial will be held at DFW National Cemetery, in Dallas, at a date to be announced.

Willie was born on November 10th, 1933, he was the fifth of thirteen siblings. Wayne lived a life marked by devotion to family, service to his country, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life. He was married to the love of his life, LaNell, for 65 years. Together they raised three children, forming a close-knit family that became Wayne’s greatest pride and joy.

Wayne’s legacy continues through his children, Tim Whitley, Pam and Brendan Kelly, and Wendy and David Tipton. His legacy extends further with his seven grandchildren: Russell and Amanda, Riley, Katie, Garrett, Olivia and Marion, Whitley, and Emily. His greatest joy expanded even further with the arrival of nine great-grandchildren: Logan, DeaShawn, Rileighanna, Jaxxon, Macie, Kahmilla, Journey, Ari, and Elijah. Wayne is also survived by four siblings: Margaret, Mary, Steve, and Danny, along with a loving sister-in-law Glenda. He cherished every moment spent with his family.

A proud Veteran of both the U.S. Army and National Guard, Wayne served his country with honor for 27 years. He often shared stories of his travels and experiences during his time in uniform. His patriotism ran deep- “proud to be an American” was more than just a phrase for him; it was a way of life. He maintained lifelong bonds with many of his fellow servicemen and held those friendships close to his heart.

Along with his military service, Wayne worked for Great Southwest railroad until retirement- a career that reflected his strong work ethic and dedication. In retirement, he embraced life fully alongside his honey LaNell. The two traveled extensively together and with their family whenever possible, creating treasured memories along the way.

Wayne also had a passion for woodworking. He spent countless hours in creative pursuit, crafting pieces that were as endearing as they were meaningful. When not working on his hobbies, he could often be found sitting on the porch in his rocking chair with a smile on his face.

Those who knew Wayne will remember him as a hero- not only for his military service but for the unwavering love he gave to those around him. His strength of character and gentle spirit left an undeniable mark on everyone fortunate enough to know and love him.

Wayne’s memory will live on through his family he adored and the countless lives he touched along the way. May his legacy continue to inspire love, laughter, and gratitude in all who remember him.
