William Dale Horn, age 73 of Walworth, WI passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at Mercy Walworth Hospital, Walworth, WI. He was born on December 26, 1951 in Wichita, KS. He was adopted by Max Paul and Whilmetta Marie Horn (Nee Dumler). Bill was raised in Russell, KS where he attended school, graduating from Russell High School, 13th out of 123 students. He participated in band, choir and athletics, lettering three years in football and wrestling. He also ran sprints in track. Bill’s journey in faith was nurtured at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Russell, KS where he was baptized and confirmed.
Bill attended University of Kansas in Lawrence, joined Beta Theta Pi fraternity entering the School of Music his sophomore year where he participated in orchestra, band and choir, playing in the pit orchestra for opera and musicals. His love for music brought him to the Lawrence Civic Opera Company where he played in the pit orchestra and for various other ensembles. He appreciated studying with Robert Foster, H Leslie Adams, Jim Barnes and Antonio Perez.
While teaching school at Jackson Heights School District, north of Holton, KS Bill played in the Topeka Civic Band and the Topeka Jazz Workshop Band. From teaching, Bill went to work for Commerce Bank and Commerce Bancshares in Kansas City, MO. While there, he earned his MBA at Rockhurst University. Then in 1987, bill went to work for the Livestock Marketing Association.
Three years later, in 1990 he entered the College of Law and DePaul University, receiving his JD in the spring of 1993. Passing the Illinois Bar in the fall of that year, and the Kansas Bar in 1994, he practiced law in DuPage, Cook and surrounding counties, and served as an Arbitrator for the Mandatory Court Annexed Arbitration Programs in Illinois until he retired in December 2015.
Bill met June while he was in law school and they became a couple in 1994. Bill said, “We retired to Wisconsin in 2015 where we met so many lovely people.”
Preceded in death by his mother, Whilmetta and father, Max; aunts, Irene Boxberger (nee Dumler), Winifred and Betty Lou; uncles, Carl W. Boxberger and Karl F.W Horn; cousins, Donald Boxberger, Awad Abdeligair, the husband of his cousin Linda Boxberger.
Bill is survived by June Murray; cousins, Gary Dean Boxberger, Max Thompson Horn, Sarah Shosie (nee Horn), her daughter, Annie and her husband Steve and their son, Chance; as well as his cousin, Linda S. Boxberger.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at Immanuel Church of Christ, 111 Fremont Street, Walworth, WI. Interment will take place at a later date in Russell, KS.
Friends may visit from 12:00 PM until the Hour of Service on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at the Church in Walworth, WI.
